Digital marketing is amazing. When did your passion begin?
It was my state of the art Atari 400 and my rockin’ 800/1200BPS modem that first opened my mind to the possibilities of connecting with anyone in the world through a screen, even if it was just to share games and communicate on what was then called covert “bulletin boards.” I was a huge tech geek in my youth and was always determined to find ways to push the envelope of technology. This, coupled with my fascination of advertising, psychology and a marketing degree is what led me to leave the traditional path of advertising after twelve years of working at some of the biggest firms in the business. In 2006, digital marketing was not mainstream, but I was already experimenting with some of the possibilities that could be achieved through digital advertising. I was enamored, amazed, and convinced that digital was the future. I still am!
You founded enCOMPASS Advertising Agency in 2006. What motivated you to start the business?
The bottom line is that I didn’t want to be held back. My clients deserved an introduction to the possibilities of digital marketing and back then very few of the larger agencies were presenting these kinds of opportunities. I have always felt it is my duty to be loyal and accountable with my clients and in order to do that I needed to create a way to give them what I felt was in their best interest– more access to new and better marketing.
I was also ready to be an entrepreneur. Seeing how long it was taking others to move to what I knew was obvious made it clear that it was time to go out on my own. I’m grateful for all of the long nights, stomach pains, doubts and fears of starting a business. It’s one of the things that helps me relate so well to our clients that are putting it all on the line every day.
How did you decide on the name “enCOMPASS”?
After many years working at large agencies, handling Fortune 500 clients, working with major sports franchises, and helping individual auto dealerships throughout the country, I had a plethora of knowledge and a vast understanding of how all media and promotions functioned. Before I even had a name for the business, I was working on TV planning for an auto group, event planning for an NFL franchise, a regional promotional concept for a major communications company, all while developing my own digital marketing company. I soon realized that no one needed just one of our capabilities. Most required, a combination of tactics and mediums. They were desperate for a firm that could help put together an all “encompassing” strategy to ensure their highest level of success. The more clients we won, the more it was evident that “enCOMPASS” portrayed exactly who we were and what we were capable of providing. We decided on the nuanced capitalization to emphasize that as we developed an all-encompassing plan, we were ensuring the client would now have a clear path (COMPASS) to success.
In the history of the company, what accomplishments are you most proud of?
I’m always proud when we can make a real difference for our clients. That’s why we are here. I get a real thrill when I see a client’s traffic, leads, and sales skyrocketing because of something our team built and implemented. There are countless stories that reflect this, and it’s why I keep doing what I do.
It’s also true that we’ve won hundreds of international awards for our work, but where my pride comes from in this accomplishment is that these are awards my team has earned. Seeing my staff rise to the challenge over and over again, always with passion and intelligence gives me a huge sense of accomplishment. It makes me proud to give great people a great place to do great work!
That brings to me our people. One of the greatest accomplishments of enCOMPASS Advertising Agency is the culture and the people we have brought together. Some would say they are the crème of the crop. Some would say they are the best of the best. However you want to say it, I’m proud and grateful for our amazing enCOMPASS team.
